Zagreb, 03.06.2014

The Institute for the Development of Education (IDE) has published a bi-annual report presenting on the main achievements of IDE in 2012 and 2013. Among its major achievements, IDE has contributed to the improvement of higher education policy in Croatia, with a focus on advocating the social dimension of higher education, improving the higher education funding policies, increasing academic mobility and developing the Croatian Qualifications Framework. In the field of educational advising, IDE has retained a central place in Croatia for information about financial aid and study abroad opportunities, with 9,000 student inquiries annually, two million website visits per year, and 10,000 visitors a year at the Higher Education and Scholarships Fair. The report is available in Croatian on the web page:

IDE has been actively working on the development of higher education policy and  succeeded (in close cooperation with universities and relevant institutions) to include recommendations for improving higher education funding policy, student financial support policy and the social dimension of higher education in the draft Strategy for Education, Science and Technology of the Republic of Croatian. IDE has also developed guidelines for the recognition of prior learning at higher education institutions in Croatia and actively participates in the development of the Croatian Qualifications Framework.

IDE has continued to advise students and pupils on study opportunities in the U.S. and Europe, and has organised educational fairs in order to bring closer this information to general public (the Higher Education and Scholarships Fair and the U.S. College Fair). In 2012 and 2013, a total of 690 students and pupils participated in group advising sessions, 290 students attended preparation courses for standardised tests and around 470 people took the TOEFL, GMAT and ACT standardised tests at IDE. IDE has continued editing its scholarships web portal and the national portal about studying in Croatia (designed for foreign students)

Overall, in 2012 and 2013 IDE worked on 29 projects, issued 9 publication and articles, sent 48 press releases, participated in 44 public events and responded to over 30,000 inquiries by e-mail and telephone. The work and achievements of IDE are based on a collaboration with all stakeholders in higher education from Croatia and abroad. In the 2012 and 2013, IDE cooperated with as many as 115 institutions and 19 individual experts through joint projects.
